Congratulations
on taking your first steps towards meaningful change. My name is Drae, and I would be honored to be a part of your journey towards creating the life you’d like to be living. Many of you may have clicked on this webpage, because you’ve felt misunderstood or unseen throughout much of your life or because you’re facing challenges with a child, teen, partner, or family member and you’d like support and answers.
Together, let’s uncover the invisible maze that comes with neurodiversity
Being neurodiverse or having a neurodiverse family member or partner, can often leave you feeling like you’re stuck in a maze with invisible walls. You keep trying to get through- trying harder and harder, but you frequently seem to end up in the same place as before, not always knowing why. And after so much trying, it can be tempting to stop trying at all. Let’s delve deep into how neurodiversity is affecting you, your child, teen, partner, or family, and put on our super goggles so to speak, made out of an understanding of neurodiversity, to allow us to see this maze so we can help you get to you closer to where you’d like to be without bumping into so many barriers!
My Approach to Therapy
Is primarily individualized and collaborative. I tailor therapy to suit your specific needs, whether that be from a perspective that takes into account your past history, one that considers the influence of the various societal, family, couple, organizational systems you’re embedded in, one grounded in your feelings and thoughts in the present moment, or one focused on making positive changes in the future with powerful mindfulness, narrative, behavioral, or cognitive-behavioral techniques.
Therapy with me is about discovering your true self, unlocking your internal voice for well-being, and learning to listen to it. Let’s clear away distorted lens the world, others, and even you may see yourself and potentially others through. An integrative, collaborative, and attachment-based mindset informs our work, as we explore your strengths, build your confidence, and discover the tools that work best for you to accomplish your goals.
Together we can unravel some of the barriers that have been holding you, your relationship, or your family back, and improve your relationship with yourself and others to aid you on your path towards a more satisfying and fulfilling life.
Education Background
I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco, California. I am a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #7880) and an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #117800), and I am working towards completing my supervised hours for my LPCC and LMFT licenses. I am under the clinical supervision of John Thompson, LCSW#77891.
Clinical Experience & Interests
I have over 4 years of experience working with neurodiverse people of various ages who have Autism, ADHD, or other learning or sensory differences. I have 3.5 years of clinical experience with families, parents, and their children and over 2 years of experience working with individual adults and teens. I am well versed in cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, behavioral, narrative, and motivational interviewing therapy, and I was trained in culturally competent, ecosystemic, attachment-based, trauma-informed relational therapy at UCSF’s Infant-Parent Program’s Early Childhood Mental Health strand. While at UCSF, I also provided parenting support, teacher support, group, in-milieu, family, and parent-child play therapy and helped affect change within both home and school environments.
Some of my clinical interests include Attachment, ADHD, Autism, APD, 2e, giftedness, trauma, Learning differences, Sensory differences, school advocacy, Parenting, Early Childhood (3-5 years old), chronic pain, codependency, disability advocacy and accommodations, LGBTQI+ issues, Highly Sensitive Persons, intergenerational trauma, and work with immigrants and multiracial children, persons, couples, and families.
Personal Interests
I love baking and cooking new recipes in the kitchen, dancing, and rock climbing. On sunny days, I enjoy running through nature trails, kayaking, and or going on picnics in the park. Laughing is one of my favorite things to do, and during my time off, I can be found listening to stand up, watching comedies, or joking with friends and family. Learning is also a passion of mine, whether that’s done through researching a new topic or trying my hand at a new DIY project.
