About Us 

The San Mateo County Pride Center is proud to offer high-quality, LGBTQ+ affirming mental health services to all community members. Our compassionate team tailors care to meet the unique needs of each client, providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based support. We partner with StarVista and Outlet to deliver comprehensive services. 

Our Services

Therapy Services 

We provide therapy services tailored to each individual and family, including: 

  • Types of Therapy: Individual, group, family, couples, and parenting support therapy. 
  • Therapeutic Modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed therapy, narrative therapy, expressive arts therapy, and more. 
  • Specialties and Areas of Focus: LGBTQ+ affirming care, cross-cultural and neurodivergent approaches, support for marginalized identities. 
  • Accessibility & Cost: We offer a sliding scale for self-pay clients and accept Medi-Cal through the Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) and BHRS.

Note: We are also a training site, providing services led by qualified trainees and associates supervised by licensed clinicians. 

Therapy Fees & Billing 

  • Self-Pay Rates: $140 per session for individuals; $160 per session for couples/families. 
  • Sliding Scale:  Some availability (instead of available?) for self-pay clients (proof of income required). 
  • Accepted Insurance: Medi-Cal through Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) and BHRS. 
  • Payment Methods: Credit cards, debit cards with credit card logo, and checks. 
  • Cancellation Policy: No-Show/Cancellation Policy

Case Management Services (Free) 

Our case management services are free and available to assist with: 

  • Community & Practical Support: Housing, employment, healthcare, legal aid, transportation, and community engagement. 
  • Gender-Affirming Services: Assistance with name and gender marker changes and access to gender-affirming garments. 
  • Workshops and Resources: 
  • Legal Name and Gender Marker Change Workshop 
  • Resource Roadmap for Transgender, Gender Diverse, & Non-binary Community in San Mateo County 

Therapy Groups & Workshops 

Neuroqueer Fruitfulness group is a 5 day a week drop in online body doubling therapy group for 18+ persons who are or suspect they are neurodivergent and are LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ affirming/friendly and wish to attend productivity coworking sessions to get certain tasks done and/or learn about ADHD strategies.

Scheduling: Mondays from 9:50am-11am, Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm, Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm, Thursdays 10:50am-11:50am, and Fridays 12-1pm

Get Connected: What to Expect

  1. Referral Process: Once you submit a Clinical Services Request Form, we’ll guide you through our intake process.
  2. Screening: Our clinical team will conduct an initial screening call to understand your needs and connect you with the right services. 
  3. First Sessions: We’ll provide initial telehealth or in-person sessions to get background history and establish a care plan tailored to you.

Hours & Location 

  • Virtual Services: Monday–Friday, 10 am–7 pm 
  • On-Site Services: Tuesday–Thursday, 11:30 am–6:30 pm (Closed Tuesdays 1:00–3:00 pm)

Question Ideas: 

  • What types of insurance do you accept?  We are able to take Medi-Cal within San Mateo County from HPSM and BHRS.  While we do not take other insurances, we can provide an equivalent of a superbill upon request for reimbursement for services.
