Trans Talks: DIY HRT: Medical Autonomy & Harm Reduction

December 5 @ 12:26 am

The Pride Center and Stanford LGBTQ+ Health Program co-host Trans* Talks, a free, monthly workshop series that centers the health and wellness of our Trans*, Gender Diverse and Non-Binary community members. Every month, a different student from Stanford’s LGBTQ+ Health Program will share information, lead a discussion and answer your questions. Community members are invited to ask questions on their health and wellness.

Title: DIY HRT: Medical Autonomy & Harm Reduction
Speaker: Charlotte Herber, PHD (she/her)
Description:
In this talk, our medical student will discuss historical and current barriers to gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) that have contributed to DIY HRT as a practice; medical benefits and risks associated with DIY HRT; and strategies for DIY HRT harm reduction, including how to communicate about DIY HRT with clinicians. This talk will center qualitative studies of interviews and oral histories from trans and gender diverse patients who use or have used DIY HRT as a means of resistance and community care, given ongoing threats to GAHT access.

Trigger Warnings:
Limited healthcare access; political transphobia and medical-legal discrimination
